3 Interior choices you might regret later.

An interior can look fantastic on paper, yet in practice, it just doesn't quite work. Often, this is not due to a single wrong choice, but to decisions made too independently of each other or too late in the process.

Three choices that, in my opinion, deserve attention early in an interior design:

1. Choosing a color without taking daylight into account

You never choose a color or wallpaper based solely on a sample or image. Light largely determines how a color is ultimately perceived.

Northern light is generally cooler and more uniform, while southern light is warmer and more intense. An east-facing room changes primarily in the morning, whereas with western light, this happens later in the day.

A shade that looks beautifully warm in one room can suddenly appear cool, washed out, or much more intense elsewhere.

So you don't choose a color based solely on color. You also choose it based on light.

2. Only figure out the lighting at the end

Lighting is not a finishing touch. It is an essential part of the interior design.

A good lighting plan combines functional lighting, mood lighting, and accents. It determines how materials and colors come into their own, where the attention is drawn, and how a space

feels in the evening.

That is why I prefer to include lighting from the very beginning — along with the layout, the ceiling plan, and the necessary connection points.

3. Only add custom work once the rest is fixed.

Good custom work does much more than create extra storage space. It can combine functions, improve sightlines, connect spaces, and add character.

In the High & L'eau project, for example, the room divider became part of the complete spatial layout. The pivoting television can be used from various locations, while the piece of furniture simultaneously structures the living space and brings together different functions.

Precisely because such an element is co-designed from the very beginning, it does not feel like something that was added later, but rather a natural part of the interior.

A strong interior ultimately does not arise from a collection of beautiful individual choices. It is created when color, light, material, layout, and custom elements are designed as a unified whole from the very beginning.
